Bittersweet
This is the context of authentic faith, one that moves to a deeper understanding of "both-and" - the place of the sacred and often bittersweet tension between seemingly incompatible realities.

Welcome to Heart of a Sojourner!
This blog is really just a place for me to share some thoughts about my spiritual journey as a Christian. My hope is that you’ll find some nuggets of truth that give you encouragement and remind you that ultimately this world is not our home, nothing is wasted, everything counts, and it’s all worth it!
I’m married to the love of my life, Norman, and I’ve been a home-educating mama for over 20 years. We are blessed with a variety pack of 6 kids, ages 26 to 6, and we are expecting our first grandchild in April of this year. Our family dynamic includes a wide and wonderful spectrum of temperaments, giftings, interests, and learning differences. Our littlest, Naomi (6), has Down syndrome. We live in the country in Illinois in a timber frame house that I call The Lodge. I dearly love my home, my church. and my community, and I’ve informed my people that unless God speaks to me audibly and commands me to move, they should just plan on burying me out back!
While the photo may give an idyllic impression of our lives in the country lodge, the truth is that we have quite a lot of experience weathering the storms of life. Our most recent tsunami was my husband’s diagnosis in 2017 with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), an aggressive brain cancer. My perspective is that of someone who is no stranger to hardship, and my intent for Heart of a Sojourner is to weave together personal stories with some spiritual insights that point to the grace, courage, and hope available to us all when we have Jesus as our traveling companion. If you don’t know Him, please message me, I’d love to introduce you!
